The match played at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, saw the club captain, Omoyayi Saburi playing his final match for the club and was giving a guard of honour before kick off.

It was a moment to savour in the 25th minute when Ogunleye Sulaimon came in for Omoyayi Saburi who retired from active football at the age of 31.

Cometh's Ibeh Ransovve controlled a loose ball inside the area, targeted the near post with a low effort which drifted away from goal for the visitor’s first chance in the 28th minute.

The game heated up in the 38th minute as Cometh fluffed their lines, no thanks to Adisa Daniel who failed to connect to an enticing low cross into the home side’s box.

Minutes later, Joy Cometh's goalkeeper Bankole Temitope was called to action again, diving to the left to save Araromi Nurudeen's long effort.

The deadlock was however broken with three minutes left of the first half as Taiye Yusuf scored beautifully with a low strike in the area.

Right inside the start of the second half, Gateway United hit the visitors on a counter as the on-rushing Seyi Okeowo drilled Haruna Salifu's pass to the roof of the net to double the lead.

In the 64th minute, Salifu Haruna hit a third goal for Gateway Utd when the diminutive forward sent a loose ball into the back of the net after the visitors failed to clear their lines.
