Owu College of Management Technology, Wasimi, Ogun State has matriculated over 500 students for new academic session with a warning to dismiss any of them caught in the act of cultism or any other activities capable tarnishing the image of the Institution
Rector of the Institution, Dr. Aderemi Samuel Adekunle who issued the Riot-act on Saturday during the 4th matriculation of the college on its main campus in Wasimi, urged the students to be focused on their studies and justify the huge expenses on them by their parents
His words"I want to sound a note of warning that the college will not tolerate any act of criminality from students ,irrespective of status of their parents.
The Rector who revealed the admission of over 500 students into both the School of Arts and Management Sciences and that of School of Science and Technology, assured that the new intake for the National Diploma (ND)programmes would be exposed to practical aspect of their training at the various departments in the college
According to him, "the higher Institution of learning has put together a first class studio within a year for practical training of our students in Masscommunication
Department. The studio is better than some of the existing radio stations in Nigeria, we can transmit from our campus once we obtain license from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC)"
Adekunle added that those in the Agricultural programmes would be exposed to practical practice of animal husbandary, fishery and others likewise the Engineering and Computer Science programmes students would be given relevant exposure
He disclosed that the Computer Science Students would have opportunity to write CISCO examination as approved by the international examination body in the United States of America,while working closely with the Chartered Institute Of Marketing and other professional Institutes for recognition of the college's programmes
Adekunle assured the students of furthering their academic pursuit on completion of the National Diploma ND programmes in some of the universities in Africa and USA based on the OwuTech partnership with the foreign Institution
The Rector was full of praises for the immeasurable support of the Institution's Governing Council Chairman, Oniwasimi of Wasimi, Oba Emmanuel Babatunde Osuntogun for releasing 20 hectares of land for future expansion
He expressed readiness of the College to partner with private sector to further Improve on the existing physical Infrastructure, expressing confidence that the college's main hall under construction would be ready in the next one year
Also Oba Babatunde Osuntogun while admonishing the newly admitted students at the matriculation, urged them to be good ambassadors of their parents and shun cultism
The Oniwasimi of Wasimi assured that the community would continue to support the college, saying OwuTech has impacted positively on daily economic activities of the people in the area.
