Ogun Assembly Orders MAPOLY To Clear Workers' Salary Arrears

Ogun State House of Assembly has given the management of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic MAPOLY, Abeokuta, a marching order to clear the outstanding two months arrears being owed workers for May and June.

Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology,Hon.Ademuyiwa Adeyemi gave the order on Monday in Abeokuta, during a mid-year budget appraisal of the polytechnic for the 2021financial year

The house expressed concern over a situation where the workers are being owed Salaries, inspite of N754.41million  generated as revenue including N249million grant and subvention from the State Government, between January and June out of which only N13.95million was expended on execution of capital projects

Acting Rector of the Institution, Dr.Adeoye Odedeji had blamed the inability to clear the arrears on the challenge of accreditation of academic programmes faced in 2018 which drastically reduced intake of students and COVID-19 experience of 2020

He however assured the committee members that the arrears would be cleared very soon with admission of more students saying, the polytechnic is awaiting team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for accreditation of its Higher National Diploma HND programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Arts and Industrial Design and others

Odedeji lamented over the bad condition of road from Iyana-Oloke leading  to the polytechnic which he says is responsible for high cost of repairs and maintenance of vehicles

Edu-Biznews recalled that the workers led by the Institution's Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Chibuzo Osifalujo had accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of being insensitive to their plight by failing to approve the payment of the arrears from the internally generated revenue of the polytechnic.

The committee also appraised the budget performance of the D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori in Ewekoro Local Government Area as well as that of the State Teaching Service Commission and State Library Board
