Professional Printers in Nigeria have decried poor patronage by the government, saying foreign printing firms are handling major printing jobs in the country, including the printing of ballot papers and other electoral materials for the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).
They are calling for an urgent policy by the Federal Government to encourage patronage of local printers and prevent foreign firms from getting such major jobs to urgently protect the industry from imminent collapse
President and Chairman in Council of the Chartered Institute Of Professional Printers of Nigeria, Mr.Olugbemi Malomo raised the concern while featuring on OGBC flagship programme"Sunday Morning Live on FM monitored by EduBiznews in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, ahead of the Institute's national conference on Wednesday at the Obas Complex within, the State Government Secretariat, Oke-mosan in the city
Malomo also stressed the need for the Federal Government to revive the moribund paper mill factories saying, the local printers now depend on importation of papers for printing jobs
According to him, Nigeria requires 3million metric tons of papers yearly for its printing jobs while local paper mill factories before their Collapsed were producing 300,000 metric tons of papers annually
He asked Government to provide the needed incentive that would encourage professionals to develop capacity of the local printing firms, to handle major printing jobs while insisting on engagement of only qualified printers for printing jobs in the country
