Police In Ogun Get Additional 60 Vehicles

Ogun State Government has handed over additional 60 vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force, to further enhance security measures put in place in the state, to ensure safety of lives and property in the state
The presentation of the vehicles is to compliment  the 100 patrol vans, 200 motorcycles and communication equipment earlier given to security agencies in the State.

Governor Dapo Abiodun while presenting the vehicles to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, in Abeokuta, the state capital, said the delivery of the vehicles was another symbolic representation of his administration's commitment towards providing a safe environment for the indigenes and those who choose to stay in the State.

Abiodun assured that the government would not relent in bringing crime and criminalities to the barest minimum to sustain the peaceful atmosphere being enjoyed in the State

He revealed  that six Amoured Personnel Carriers, Special Power Bikes have been ordered to boost crime fighting in the State, while attention was on job creation, youth empowerment and provision of security apparatus.

Abiodun however warned that  his administration  would take a decisive action against whoever engages in any form of criminalities, as such act would be viewed as an economic sabotage against the State, saying “the present administration will not take it lightly with anyone or group who try to undermine governments’ developmental efforts”.

He commended the Police Air Wing for doing a great job, noting that their dedication to duty had enable the State government respond swiftly to urgent situations.

IGP Baba had earlier described the State as one of the most peaceful due to its investment on security, adding that the donation of the vehicles was ‘a game changer’, which would further make the work of policing easier, pledging that his officers would make judicious use of the equipment.

Meanwhile, Governor Dapo Abiodun has called on IGP Baba to continue to pursue community policing in the country, and ensure more people are recruited into the scheme for effectiveness of the Nigeria Police.

Abiodun who made this known when he earlier played host to the IGP in his office, said the 300 Community policemen deployed to the State were not enough to protect the people.

"When you look at a State of about 6.5 million people with 20 Local Government Areas, it amounts to about 15 police officers per Local Government, so, we need to see how we can recruit more", he said.

Abiodun who also noted that the fiber optic being laid across the State would avail the people opportunity to surf the internet, and enable the government capture what happens around it.

Earlier in his remarks, the IGP lauded Governor Abiodun for his proactiveness on security matters, calling on the people to support government in the fight against crime.
