Ogun Seeks Partnership With Private Firms To Boost Power Supply

Ogun State Government has expressed its readiness to partner with large and small power generating industries, to improve power supply, sustain Industrial growth and help boost the economy of the State.

The State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kikelomo Longe expressed the readiness while hosting members of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the Ogun State Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (OGUNCCIMA) at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

Longe stated that the present administration as an inclusive government was logical in its approach at solving the challenge of power supply, stating that necessary opportunities would be tapped to ensure economic growth of the State.

Her words,“We are working on solutions to power issues in the State. The inputs of our industries are very important to us because the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration is promoting public-private participation, which is a solution-driven approach. We are concerned about helping industries to do well”

She added that government was planning to put in place six Economic Development Clusters (EDC) on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with necessary infrastructure such as power, road networks, water, internet connectivity and others, for the growth of the industrial and MSMEs sub-sectors.

Also speaking, Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy, Mr. Lolu Adubifa, said the present administration was planning to facilitate the expansion of Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to six industrial clusters which include Abeokuta, Sagamu Interchange, Mowe-Ibafo, Ijebu-Ode, Ota, Agbara through Public Private Partnership with distribution companies and other energy firms.

Adubifa revealed that the government was also working towards reviving the 42-megawatt capacity state-developed power plant in Abeokuta that has been left moribund for over 10 years, adding that a total of 150 transformers have been purchased to boost power supply in various communities in the State.

He added that the Ogun State Energy Board would soon be inaugurated by the state government to ensure more consumers have access to power and also bring about development to the State power sector.

President of OGUNCCIMA, Alhaji Wasiu Olaleye had earlier urged relevant stakeholders to work around the regulatory framework currently limiting desired participation in the power value-chain to help improve the sector.

Top dignitaries at the meeting include, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Industry, Trade and Investment, Chief Remi Ogunmefun and Special Assistant to the Governor on Energy, Mr. Wale Suleiman.
