Ogun LG Poll:OGSIEC Okays Party Primaries




The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of primary elections by various political parties, ahead of the July 24 councils'poll in the state

 Chairman of the electoral agency, Babatunde Osibodu  expressed the satisfaction shortly after monitoring of the exercise, which he described as generally peaceful

He said the parties in the areas visited complied with laid down rules and regulations.

His words,"We received letters from some political parties, inviting us to monitor their party primaries, as part of the process of the forthcoming Local Government elections and from across the entire 236 wards that we visited, the exercise was generally peaceful, devoid of rancour and apprehensions.,"

"I wish to commend the various political parties for being well-organised in their quest to pick their flag bearers and meet the deadline for the submission of names of candidates. They have indeed made good use of the extension of the conduct of party primaries", Osibodu said.

He expressed delight that the large turnout for the party primaries was an indication that the people were indeed ready for the elections, advising political parties to maintain the momentum.

OGSIEC had on May 28, announced one week extension for the conduct of primaries by the parties, which expired last Thursday, June 3rfh hi in 
Meanwhile fresh crisis is brewing within the major opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as two factions are laying claim to be in charge of the party in the state

Both the State Chairman of PDP , Dr.Sikirulah Ogundele and one Adeleke from the late Buruji Kashamu faction had last Thursday, visited OGSIEC office at Oke-Ilewo in Ibara in Abeokuta, to collect forms on behalf of the party's candidates, leading to scuffle between the two of them

OGSIEC had given the party till next one week,to resolve its Internal issue before coming to back to the agency to obtain forms for their candidates
