Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN) has been tasked to give priority to the development of girl-child, to enable fulfill their rich potentials in the country
Ogun State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs.Kikelomo Longe made the call when members of the Abeokuta District of SWAN,paid her a courtesy visit in Abeokuta.
She said relevant stakeholders should focus more on the implementation and promotion of various programmes that would help girls and women in achieving their aspirations, to further impact on the economy of the nation.
Her words,"Helping the girl-child develop to actualise her potential is a major strategy that can foster inclusive social and economic growth. The development of the girl-child will also lead to sustainable development"
The Commissioner said the present administration has been promoting financial inclusion for women through access to credit facilities and other interventions, lauding SWAN for implementing various programmes targeted at helping young girls to make the right career choices.
Speaking earlier, the Chairperson, SWAN, Dr. (Mrs.) Taiwo Alakija-Aroyeun said the body has been proactive in helping the profession grow by taking its campaigns to schools, to guide the young ones on accountability, as well as encouraging them to develop interest in the accounting profession.
Alakija-Aroyeun who appreciated the Commissioner for supporting the group in the actualisation of its objectives, added that ahead of the induction of newly elected members of SWAN Abeokuta district, different indigent students would be awarded scholarships to aid their academic development
