Ogun Flood Victims To Get 500 Housing Units

Federal Government is concluding arrangement with the Ogun State Government to begin the construction of 500 housing units, as part of measures to rehabilitate flood victims whose houses were ravaged in 2018

Already.an implementation team from Abuja had paid a working visit to the project site in Abeokuta, the state capital

Edu-Biznews recalled that some of the affected areas in the city, include Amolaso, Isale- Kuto, Ijeja, Ijeun,Gbangba, Abule-Otun at the bank of Ogun-River in Lafenwa among others

Mr. Kayode Fagbemi who is the      Chairman, Federal Government Implementation Committee, who is also the Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in a chat with newsmen, said the mission was in line with the Committee’s work plan to commence discussion with the State implementation team.

 This project according to him, "has been approved by the President Muhammadu Buhari, since January,2020 to build 500 units of 2bedroom houses prototype for the affected people, which would be in collaboration with the State government. Fund has been released and we are ready to start work in earnest, if not for COVID-19 that held us back this long, but we are set now with the support of the State government"..

The State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Barr. Femi Ogunbanwo  the present government is ready to collaborate with the Federal Government through NEMA, to resettle the affected victims in the July 13, 2018 flood disaster in Abeokuta, assuring that the government would provide the land, physical structures and other necessary support to deliver the presidential mandate.

Ogunbanwo added that upon the completion of the rehabilitation work, the buildings on the waterways would give way for proper channelisation of the drains and better management of the ecosystems.
