Some of the members of the Ogun State House of Assembly have expressed concern over the disturbing rate of kidnapping and banditry in the state

Chief Whip of the house who is representing Odogbolu State Constituency, Hon(Mrs)Atinuke Bello and Hon.Kemi Oduwole representing Ijebu-Ode Constituency raised fresh concern over the rising spate of insecurity caused by incessant cases of kidnapping along Ibadan/ Ijebu- Igbo and Ijebu-Ode corridors as well as Odogbolu and some other parts of the State by suspected herdsmen, who often killed victims including farmers.
The members speaking under personal explanation at the Tuesday plenary of the house in Abeokuta, made renewed appeals to the State Government to strengthen the security network in the affected areas to check the illegal activities of the criminals across the State
Speaker of the house, Right Honourable Olakunle Oluomo who presided over the plenary, cautioned the people of the state against giving information about their co-residents to criminals
Oluomo noted that recent reports had it that some locals were conniving with kidnappers by sharing information about peoples’ movement with criminals.
He equally urged residents to avoid reckless display of extravagant life style and continue to collaborate with security agents by giving intelligent information on how to curb crimes and criminality to security agents.
Meanwhile the State House of Assembly has passed two bills seeking to establish law reform commission for the seamless review of the State’s operational laws in line with societal realities and global best practices and another targeted at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the judicial arm of government through change of nomenclature to boost the morale of workers.
The passage of the bills titled “HB No. 63/OG/ 2021 – The Ogun State Law Reform Commission Law, 2021” and “H.B No. 60/OG/2020- The Schemes of Service Law for Registrars, Process Servers and Change of Nomenclature of Messengers and Cleaners in the Judicial Service of Ogun State, 2020”, at a plenary presided over by Speaker Olakunle Oluomo was meant to enhance service delivery as well as ensure timely dispensation of justice in the State.
The passage of the State Reform Commission Law, 2021 was consequent upon the presentation of report of the House Committee on Justice, Ethics and Public Petitions by its Chairman, Hon. Solomon Osho, who thereafter moved the motion for the adoption of the report, which was seconded by his Yewa South counterpart, Hon. Bolanle Ajayi and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote after which the bill was later read and adopted Clause- by – Clause by the Committee of the whole House.
The motion for the third reading of the bill was later moved by the Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff , seconded by Osho Solomon, while the Clerk of the House and Head of Legislative Service, ‘Deji Adeyemo, took the third reading of the bill before the lawmakers.
On its part, the passage of the bill on the Schemes of Service Law for Registrars, Process Servers and Change of Nomenclature of Messengers and Cleaners in the Judicial Service of Ogun State, 2020” was sequel to the presentation of Committee’s report by Hon. Osho, who thereafter moved the motion for its adoption and was seconded by Hon. Ajibola Sikiratu.
The process of passage of the bill, saw to its clause –to-clause reading and adoption by the Committee of the Whole House; after which the Majority Leader moved the motion for the third reading, seconded by Hon. Ganiyu Oyedeji and supported by the Whole House, shortly after which the assembly Clerk did the third reading.
Passing the bills, Speaker Oluomo directed that the clean copies of the bills be sent to Governor Abiodun for his assent.
