NNL Week Six: Gateway United Beat Ibom Youth 1-0

Gateway United Football Club struggled to beat hard-fighting Ibom-Youth Fc by a lone-goal, in a mid-week second tier Nigeria National League NNL match played at the MKO Abiola International Stadium in Kuto, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital

A stoppage-time penalty converted by  Oluwole Johnson was enough to secure the needed maximum for the homeside who had earlier lost two/nil on the road in Ikenne-Remo last Sunday to local rivals ,Remo Stars

Aderemi Yusuf missed golden opportunity to put the homeside ahead within five minutes of opening half of the week-six match when his effort cannoned off the upright in what could have been a glorious start for the Ogun State owned team

There was a big clearance from Oronsaye James as Ibom Youth FC looked to break on the counter, that action coming in the 20th minute.

Bakare Fatai 's freekick for Gateway also went wide off the post as the first half ended goalless.

Coach Akeem Busari made a 50th minute substitution when Aderemi Yusuf and Salifu Haruna came into the fray for Bakare Fatai and Adeoye Victor.

The homeside sustained its massive attack against the visiting Ibom-Youth side, with Seyi Okeowo creating yet another finest opportunity  to break the deadlock, but Odusina Sunkanmi failed to convert it.

Also Kayode Dada's shot was magnificently saved by the Ibom Youth FC goalkeeper in the late minutes of the tension soaked match

The Centre Referee ignored the called  for a penalty by the homeside, when Odunsina Olasunkami's goal bound move was impended from behind

Gateway United's continuous pressure on the very tight defence wall of the visitors, paid off within the five minutes of the stoppage time of the encounter, when Oluwole Johnson's header was blocked by the arm of an Ibom Youth defender.

It was a moment of tension, as highly calmed Oluwole Johnson scored from the penalty spot to give Gateway United hard- earned maximum three points over Ibom Youth FC

Gateway United in a statement by its Media Officer, Moses Ojewumi, will be visiting Uyo this Saturday,March 13, to confront another Akwa-Ibom State based side,FC One Rocket in one of the week-seven .
