Abiodun Awards Contract, To Boost Water Supply In Ogun




Governor Dapo Abiodun has awarded contract for water projects, to boost supply of potable water in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital 

Edu-Biznews observed that residents in most part of the city have been struggling in the past few weeks, to get potable water, as some of them usually seen on long queue, trying to get water from any available near by boreholes   

Abiodun  awarded the contract for the construction of new DI 800 mm main conveyance pipeline and 14’500 m3 reservoir at Oke-Temidire, under Lot2, as well as distribution network extension under Lot3, which will be funded by Agencie Franciase de Development (AFD).

The Governor  who was represented by the Commissioner for Finance/Chief Economic Adviser, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo during the signing of the contract agreement in Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta, noted that project would bring succour to the living condition of over 500,000  inhabitants of the area.

He urged the consultants to ensure that the project are delivered up to standard and completed within the given time frame, adding that the State is looking forward to successful execution of the projects.

 The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Water, Engr. Adekunle Otun who spoke earlier, explained that Lot 2 of the project, which is to be executed by China Geo-Engineering Company (CGC), consisted of the new DI 800mm main conveyance pipelines, length of 6.4km from Arakanga to Oke-Temidire and construction of new 14'500 m3 concrete reservoir at Oke-Temidire.

Otun added that Lot3 of the project to be handled by Thomas Chase Ltd. is the Distribution Network Extension, which consisted supply and laying of distribution network pipes of 83.117km, as well as installation of total number of 4,318 house connections water points, 15 water sale kiosks and 5 number of fire hydrants.

He said under Distribution Water Network, Sector 2, Oke-Temidire sector would cover a new distribution network of about 83.117km, to be equipped with prepaid water meters for 4,318 houses connections, adding that a total of 15 water sale kiosks and provision of fire hydrants for fire protection, to serve areas such as Oke-Temidire, Asero Estate, OGD Estate and Olorunda.

The Special Adviser stated other districts to include Akin Okudero area, Fajobi Estate, Obantoko, Eleweran, Abolade Oke-Odo Community, Abule-Ijebu, Tejumola Estate and Ebamidupe Temidire Community.

Others in attendance were the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Development Partners, Mr. Bayo Adenekan, General Manager of the State Water Corporation, Engr. Oluseye Maku and the Consultants
