NNL Day-One:Joy Cometh Humiliate Gateway Utd 3-0

Gateway United started its campaign for promotion to the elite, Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on a shaky note on Sunday, after suffering a humiliating three/nil defeat to Joy Cometh FC .

Lucky Olowu's header opened scoring for the homeside as early as six minutes into the Nigeria National League (NNL) 2020/2021 opener played at the Agege Township Stadium, Lagos

The visiting Gateway boys missed golden opportunity to draw level when Aderemi Yusuf failed to convert penalty awarded, allowing Joy Cometh's goal-keeper,Majekodunmi Lekan to make a brilliant safe in the 24th minute, after the team's earlier goal in the 20th minute was disallowed by the assistant referee for offside positioning.

The  introduction of Seyi Okeowo and Michael Okolo added bite to the Gateway's attack but could not stop the highly determined homeside from increasing the tally in the 72nd minute, through  Ibrahim Gbenga who capitalized on a low loose ball, to head home the second goal.

Lucky Olowu grabbed a brace in the 89th minute, to put the match beyond the visitors  and wrapped up the game with the third goal.

Gateway's efforts to get a consolation goal and reduce the tally, were not successful.

The Akeem Busari tutored side will now seek redemption against Crown FC on Saturday 21st February, 2021.
