The Niger State Government has expressed its readiness to dialogue with bandits who invaded the Government Science College, Kagara, last Wednesday and abducted some of the students and teachers.
Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ahmed Ibrahim Matane who
accompanied Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmed Abubakar Gumi to meet the bandits,made this known on Friday.
He appealed to the bandits to embrace dialogue and reconciliation, by laying down their arms.
The bandits however gave the government condition for the release of the abductees, saying government must release their Colleagues in the custody of security agencies, for peace to reign in the state
Matane addressing the bandits and their commanders in Dutsen Magaji, Mariga Local Government Area of the State, urged them to embrace peace dialogue being initiated by the government, to end the security challenges in the state
The SSG also appealed to the bandit Commanders to support government’s effort in securing the release of the abducted passengers of Niger State Transport Authority mass transit and the Students of Government Science College, Kagara.
He further stated that religious leaders and other stakeholders would be involved in the peace move by government with bandits, kidnappers, and cattle rustlers
Also speaking,the Kaduna-based Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmed Abubakar Gumi expressed optimism that dialoguing with the bandits would put an end to the current insecurity in the State and country at large.
Gumi asked the bandits to lay down their arms and embrace peace, saying Islam is against taking the lives of innocent people
The cleric promised that he would continue to discuss with the state government with a view of achieving the set objectives
