The shopping mall was gutted by fire last September, with electronic items worthed several millions of naira destroyed before the men of the fire service quenched it.
The State Physical Planning and Urban Development Commissioner, Tpl.Olatunji Odunlami in an exclusive chat with Edu-Biznews on Tuesday at his Oke-mosan Abeokuta office, explained that "the demolition excercise was informed by the result of the structural test carried out on the building, the summary of the integrity test shows that the structure had been compromised and as a responsible government,we need to completely bring down the building to avoid loss of lives and property".
Odunlami insisted that government would not allow the owner of the shopping mall to just rehabilitate such building whose structure had been completely compromised and could collapse at any time on near by houses .

The commissioner revealed further that the Ogun State Building Production Management Authority would soon begin to go round the state, to detect public and private buildings with noticeable cracks, to prevent sudden collapse of such buildings as well as loss of lives and property.
He added that the agency through its Buildings Inspectorate Department would be carrying the excercise in the state,
The State Building Production Management Authority according to Odunlami, will issue notice to owners of such buildings with cracks, to carry out structural test on them, to determine if they require just palliative to strengthen the structure but in the case of completely compromised structure , the affected buildings would be brought down to save lives and property.
The Commissioner also said effort would be made to regenerate some of the slum areas in the state, by providing those basic amenities, particularly toilet facilities, while some of the buildings would be strengthened to make them habitable for people.
