Ogun TESCOM To Recruite Professional Counselors In Secondary Schools

Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) is strongly considering recruitment of Guidance and Counselling professionals, as part of measures to reduce high rate of social vices in secondary schools in the state.

The Chairman of TESCOM, Evang. Olalekan Ifede stated this during a recent courtesy visit by the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) Ogun State Chapter, Egba Block, at the Commission's Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

According to him, "Counsellor’s role at guiding students in taking right decisions cannot be over emphasized".

Ifede added that  the present government was more concern about giving credible and qualitative education service delivery to students across the State stressing, "their future must be reshaped, in order to have steady and successful progress in their educational life."

His words,"The rate at which cultism and other social vices thrives in our schools is very alarming and all hands must be on deck to address the situation. Education without good character has no basis and I promise to table it before the Governor and let him see the urgent need of having active guidance and counsellors across schools in Ogun State".

The Chairman urged members of the Association to revive their active counsellorship roles  in the lives of students

He said they must also  motivate their students while eradicating bad characters and promoting culture and respect for principals, teachers and elders in the society.

Permanent Secretary, TESCOM, Mr. Johnson Odeyemi, charged the Association to be more proactive in their dealings with students, admonishing them to guide the students right in their chosen career, to improve the State’s Higher Educational Potential (HEP) and reduce cultism in schools.

Also the State Chairman,CASSON, Prof. Modupe Hassan, represented by the Egba Block Vice Chairman, Mrs. Nike Odukoya, said the collaboration was necessary to curb cultism and other social vices among primary and secondary school students.

He lauded Governor Abiodun for his efforts at redeeming the lost glory of the education sector in the State, promising that the Association would do the needful and put the future of the students on a successful pedestrian.
