Ogun State Government says 10,000 hectares of land has been allocated for the massive production of Cotton ,a major raw material for textile industries in Nigeria.
Also the production of Cocoa and Oil Palm will be expanded alongside Cotton, under the State's Anchor Borrowers’ Programme in partnership with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) .
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina who made this known, said the State Government would scale up its Agricultural programmes, employ climate Smart Agricultural Practice, as well as irrigation farming to benefit all categories of farmers and guide against draught in the new year.
Odedina speaking during the recent "Budget 2021 Media Parley" in Abeokuta, stated that the move would expand Agricultural opportunities to all farmers.
The Commissioner added that the Ministry would leverage on its engagement with the World Bank, International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), African Development Bank (AfDB), among others, with a view to making the State a special agro-processing zone.
His words"Our agricultural agenda is very much on course, we are going to step up the game in 2021 with our engagement with the World Bank, IITA and particularly the African Development Bank, in our renewed drive to make the State official agro-processing zone".
"We will also be looking at Climate Smart Agriculture Practice. We are paying particular attention to irrigation facility in 2021, and this will guarantee the employment of more people", he said.
According to Odedina, the Ministry would look into abandoned agricultural activities of dam irrigation service, to allow more farmers the seamless advantage of all-year- round farming.
He expressed hope that the approval of the new framework for land use would no doubt, make land access a smooth process in 2021, saving investors the rigor of acquiring land, as obtained in the past.
