A Delegation from the Federal Capital Territory Agricultural Development Programme (FCT-ADP) Abuja and Agric and Rural Development Secretariate (ARDS) are now understudying the model adopted by the Ogun State Agricultural team which rated it as the best in Nigeria interms of food production and business opportunities within the agricultural sector value chain.

Leader of the delegation who is also the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, ARDS, Yahaya Hussaini, speaking on the team's arrival in the state ,said the seamless land Aquisition, land management, farm settlement as well as farm estates operation of the state informed their choice of Ogun for the share-learning and they are ready to implement same.
His words,"We are here because of the various success stories of Ogun State in terms of Agriculture. It was indeed a fruitful visit, we have been to other states but what we saw in Ogun State is a wide margin, and we came to the conclusion that Agriculture is the way out of our challenges".
"We saw the farm institute and estate operated by the state government as well as the skilled personnel and we we're thrilled and they are all worthy of emulation", Yahaya said with excitement.
He added that the FCT-ADP was looking at ways of harnessing the potential of youths in the FCT in Agriculture as well as dissuade them from over relying on white collar jobs, saying Agriculture could be used to take many out of unemployment market.
Yahaya further stated that the Ogun Broiler Project as well as Fisheries production would be replicated in the FCT-ADP, believing it will further help to boost its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
He attributed the successes recorded to the support gotten from Governor Dapo Abiodun, committed staffers, collaboration with Development partners, noting that it was poised to do even more this year.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina while welcoming the team, said it was time for Nigeria to create a synergy and cross fertilize ideas that would engender modern commercial farming and industrialization.
"It is interesting that you came to know how we handle our projects. People from other states also came last year and we will alsovisit some states to learn from them, Odedina said.
"I thank you for choosing to come and tap from the wealth of experience of the state, Ogun is not a "know it all state". We are also open and ready to collaborate and learn from other states", the Commissioner added.
The Team visited the Ajegunle farm settlement, Odeda Farm Institute, Anchor Borrowers fields, Ikenne farm settlement, among others, just as the Head of Extension, FCT-ADP, Ndaya Muhammad Yelwa appreciated the Ogun Agric team for the hospitality and warm reception accorded them.
Meanwhile, the State Ministry of Agriculture has trained its top officials Including Directors and their Deputies to enhance capacity of its workforce and ensure efficiency in the system.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedina while declaring the training open at the Simon Adebo Library, Kuto, Abeokuta,with the theme "Ethos, Ethical Leadership and Demand in Workplace", stressed that the need to continually empower and broaden the capacity of its staffers cannot be over emphasised.
Odedina said the training became necessary to prepare the officers for what lies ahead in the year, charging them to brace up to do more as their job is service delivery to the people.
"We are social workers with technology. If we don't prepare ourselves very well, things won't work. As we are preparing ourselves now, we should also prepare the people too. Pro-training linkage is also necessary because you learn more on the job", he said.
Also the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishment and Training, Mrs Lydia Fajombo speaking at the training session, emphasized the importance of human capital development which she said enables officers to contribute meaningfully to the organization.
She encouraged the participants to be committed to promoting and upholding workplace integrity, charging them to be conversant with statutory books as well as service values and standards.
"As leaders, uphold workplace integrity as well as Civil Service values and standards. We must be conversant with statutory books in the civil service such as, Public Service Rules, Civil Service Commission Regulations, Financial Regulations, Circulars, Office manuals, among others", she charged.
Shoyombo advised the participants to leverage on the training for personal developments and better job performance in line with the present administration's "building our future together" agenda.
One of the facilitators, the Permanent Secretary, Civil Service Commission, Alhaji Fatai Ogunlana emphasized the importance of discipline on the part of senior officers as a guide to the subbordinates.
"Those who wish to lead other people should always remember that effective leadership involves exemplary character, hard work and transparent integrity. Civil servants must be well disciplined. Rules and regulations should be adhered to and interest of the service must be paramount. Senior officers should prescribe codes of conduct which they themselves can and should comply with", he charged.
Another facilitator, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Service Matters, Mr. Dahunsi Ogunleye, defined ethical leadership as "a practical demonstration of virtues and values."
He identified honesty, integrity, loyalty, promise-keeping, fairness, care, as attributes of a good leader, charging them to be of good character which he said is defined by one's actions.
Other attributes enumerated include, respect for others, being law abiding, commitment to excellence and accountability, enjoining them to be accommodating and collaborate with others to meet organisational set goals.
