Buhari Finally Replaces Service Chiefs



President Muhammadu Buhari has finally appointed new service chiefs to replace the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin and others who are retiring from the service.

The Service Chiefs  had been in charge of the various military top offices since 2015 .

Buhari reacting to continous call by various interest groups for a change in the service chiefs, promised in his New Year broadcast  to Nigerians, that he would be making critical security changes in 2021, to address the rising cases of insecurity in the country .

The President in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, on Tuesday announced the replacement of the Service Chiefs after accepting the resignation of the former service chiefs .

The new Service Chiefs according to the statement, are Major General Leo Irabor who  replaces  General Abayomi Olonisakin as Chief of Defense Staff; Major-General Ibrahim Attahiru who takes over from Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai as Chief of Army Staff; Rear-Admiral A.Z Gambo as  replacement for Vice-Admiral Ibok Ekwe Obad as Chief of Naval Staff; while Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao replaces Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.

The President in the statement, congratulated  the new Service Chiefs, and urged  them to be loyal and dedicated in the discharge of their responsibilities.

“Those involved are the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar."

“President Buhari thanks the outgoing Service Chiefs for what he calls their ‘overwhelming achievements in our efforts at bringing enduring peace to our dear country’, wishing them well in their future endeavours.
