Ogun State Government has banned trucks and other articulated vehicles from plying Fly-Overs in the state, following the Tuesday's oil-tanker explosion in Abeokuta, the state capital which claimed three lives, leaving six others seriously injured.
Eyewitness account told Edu-Biznews that the driver of the oil-tanker on top speed,suddenly lost control as early as 8:10am while descending from Fly-Over in Kuto area of the city, near the Simeon Adebo Library and GTBank branch, spilled its contents and rammed into seven cars and motorcycle, leaving them completed burnt, except a car which was serious damaged.
Governor Dapo Abiodun arriving the scene of the explosion with other top government's officials, for on the spot assessment of the ugly incident, announced the ban, saying other stiffer measures would be rolled-out by the State Ministry of Transport.
"Any trailer of sort, be it truck and articulated vehicles will not be allowed on Fly-Overs in our state, to ensure safety of lives and property", the governor declared.
State Government will begin to enforce serious sanction on tankers and other articulated vehicles who are not road worthy, this not the first time this ugly incident is happening in the state, we are taking measures as government to prevent re-occurence of the incident, we will make sure that tanker drivers do not ply our Fly-Overs"he added.
Abiodun who sympathized with families of three victims who died in the explosion and other injured persons, revealed that Burnt Experts are now in Abeokuta from Lagos, urgently attending to three of the six persons with first degree burnt for possible transfer to Lagos for better medical attention
According to the governor, the six injured persons are receiving treatment at both the State Hospital, Sokenu-Ijaye and Federal Medical Centre in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.
The governor commended the operatives of the State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) and Fire Service for their timely response to control the spread of the explosion to other commercial buildings and public buildings.
Abiodun assured that the treatment of the injured victims would would be taken care by government while in appreciating for two other persons who escaped from the scene unhurt.
He directed the State Police Commissioner Edward Awolowo Ajogun, to condone-off the scene of the explosion near the Kuto Fly-Over along Abeokuta Business District Area in Oke-Ilewo
