The State Forestry Commissioner, Hon.Tunji Akinosi made this known in Abeokuta on Monday while defending his ministry's 2021 budget estimate of N1.69billion before the State House of Assembly's Finance and Appropriation Committee.
He added that N68.5million would be spent on farm development which includes establishment of 10 hectares of fruit orchard, expansion of 600 Beehives Agricultural project and establishment of 100 Bamboo Plantation to reclaim Ilaro Forest Reserve and mushroom production and others.
Akinosi revealed that N45.48million would be expended on raising 1.4 million of Teak,Gmelima and other plantation establishment as well as provision of Horticultural seedlings for growing parks and garden while N19.17million was voted for construction of Zoological Garden in conjunction with Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED)
He promised that the ministry was working on a project on how to preserve Elephants and other wild animals in the Ijebu East area of the state.
Meanwhile the State House of Assembly has proposed an increase in the revenue projection of the ministry beyond N249.6million targeted for the 2021 fiscal year, having exceeded the N120million set for the outgoing year, realising N124million as at last October.
The House Finance and Appropriation Committee Chairman, Olakunle Sobukanla also promised to review upward the over head cost of the ministry to meet up with the proposed increase by the lawmakers in the coming fiscal.
The Commissioner had requested for the upward review of its over head by additional N30million to the N25.7million proposed in the budget.
He expressed confidence of achieving the new revenue target, with the granting of the request for the increase in the over head cost, to take care of the ministry's logistics in the 2021 fiscal year.
