Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, has signed the 2021 Appropriation Bill of N338.6bn into Law, to sustain the state's tradition of January to December budget cycle implementation.
Edu-Biznews recalled that the House on Tuesday, passed the Appropriation Bill which includes recurrent expenditure of N146.529billion and capital expenditure of N171.898billion and N20.182billion for Consolidated Revenue Fund Charges (CRFC) for the 2021 fiscal year.
Abiodun signed the Bill on Wednesday in the presence of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Olakunle Oluomo and other Lawmakers , in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the state capital.
The governor explained that signing was done in readiness for the Post Pandemic Recovery across all the sectors of the State economy.
His words"We just signed another Budget which we believe is realistic in view of the circumstances that we find ourselves. This Budget is about N338.6billion. This is done in preparation for the Post Pandemic Recovery across all the sectors, particularly in the area of affordable housing, agriculture, healthcare, education as well as security to engender economic development."
Abiodun stressed that the implementation of the budget would focus on completion of the ongoing roads and other infrastructural projects in the state
"We will pay a lot of attention to the completion of all on-going projects in the State. We will continue to implement along the verticals that we call developmental pillars of ISEYA, which stands for Infrastructure, Social welfare and well-being, Education, Youth empowerment and job creation and Agriculture. This will enable us deliver on our vision and mantra of "Building Our Future Together", he explained.
The governor described the 2021 Appropriation Bill, tagged Budget of Recovery and Sustainability, as an important document in the development plans and processes of his administration and that of the State.
Abiodun maintained that the out going year was turbulent, hence the need to reduce the Budget from N450billion to about N281billion to match with the prevailing circumstances.
"In year 2020, we were hopeful as the Budget was presented this time last year. We presented a budget of about N450bn, but he pandemic led to the review to about N281bn. This was to match the Budget with the reality in view of the circumstances", Abiodun noted.
He appreciated the Speaker and other Lawmakers who spent sleepless nights fine-tuning the Bill to ensure it speedy passage, saying it was a demonstration of commitment and dedication of the House to the welfare and well-being of the people of the State.
"I want to appreciate the Speaker and other members of the House for spending sleepless nights working to ensure speedy passage of the Bill. It is a demonstration of commitment and dedication of the House to the welfare, wellness and well-being of the State", he said.
Governor Abiodun called on members of the House to join the advocacy by stepping up campaign in their various constituencies to stem the tide against the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic, which was deadlier than the first.
The Governor frowned at the non compliance of the people with the Covid-19 protocols, saying it was imperative to imbibe the new normal, as the second wave of the pandemic was more severe than the first.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Oluomo while handing over the Bill to the governor, said due diligence was followed as the Budget passed through legislative scrutiny.
He added that the House succeeded in keeping with the tradition of the State, by getting it ready on time for the Governor's assent.
