Ogun State Government has proposed establishment of an Adire Garment Institute in the 2021 fiscal year, to ensure massive production of the local fabric material for export market..
The State Commissioner for Industry, Trade and Investment,Mrs Kikelomo Longe unfolded the plan while presenting her ministry budget estimate for 2021fiscal year during the State's Treasury Board meeting on 2021-2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and 2021 Budget, at the Obas Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
She explained that establishing such Institute is to build on the gains of the present administration's policy of encouraging the use of Adire garment in schools
She said establishing a Garment Institute in the 2021 fiscal year, would enable entrepreneurs produce more garments and export the product to the United States duty-free under the African Growth and OppoSrtunity Act ( AGOA)
She revealed that the Garment Institute would be in partnership with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), create more job opportunities for unemployed youths, earn foreign exchange for rapid economic growth in the State.
Longe added that as part of the drive to create enabling environment and improve the Ease of Doing Business in the State, the Ministry also intends to upgrade the Technology Incubation Centre at Onijanganjangan.
The Commissioner further revealed that another plan is under-way to establish a Cosmetics, Soaps and Detergent Common Facility, to meet latest technological advancement, which would enhance small businesses share facilities and get certifications more easily.
The Commissioner added that through Public Private Partnership, the Ministry would ensure the full take-off of the cashew nut processing machine donated to the Cashew Production Association in Imasayi by NEPC.
She added that demolished portions of the State Trade Fair Complex in Abeokuta, would also be reconstructed to ensure the Gateway International Trade Fair is held at the venue in 2021, to promote trade and investment opportunities.
Longe said the Ministry was proposing the sum of N731,932,191.10 representing 62.80 percent for capital expenditure and N433, 538,374.80 as 37.20 percent for recurrent expenditure, while aiming to generate N1, 225, 000, 000.
On the Ministry's revenue generation target as at October, 2020, she noted that 89.3 percent had been achieved, expressing optimism that the Ministry would achieve its full target before the end of the year.
