Buhari To Re-opent Land border Soon, Gets Presidential Committee's Report On The Closure

Federal Government is to re-open Nigeria land borders soon, after the border areas were shut to neigbouring countries August ,2019 for breaching trade agreements with the country.

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, in an interview with State House correspondents gave the assurance after the Federal Executive meeting on Wednesday at the presidential villa in Abuja.

She said the committee on border closure set up by  President Muhamedu Buhari  would soon submit its report.

Edu-Biznews recalled that on August 20, 2019, the presidency shutdown  land borders,  to stop smuggling from its West African neigbours and encourage local production.

The presidency then gave strict conditions to the neigbouring countries who are demanding re-opening of the land borders .

They were asked  to check smuggling from their own ends as part of the conditions for reopening the borders.

The President set up a  ministerial committee consisting of Ahmed, her counterpart for interior, Rauf Aregbesola; the Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey J Onyeama, as well as heads of immigration and customs to review the decision which took the committee more than a year to submit its report to the president for consideration.
