Social Media Users have been asked to explore the power tools of the platform to project and reposition the creativities inherent in Nigeria's Arts and Crafts industries to the global world, as the Ogun State team won laurels at the recently concluded 13th International Arts and Crafts Expo in Abuja .
The State clinched the first positions in COVID-19 compliance, Contemporary textile and Contemporary marketing strategy and emerged the 3rd overall winner while Ekiti State was the best overall winner.
Ogun State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism ,Dr.Oluwatoyin Taiwo described social Media as means of boosting the economy of the industry.
The Commissioner was speaking at the 13th edition of the International Arts and Crafts Expo (INAC), with the theme: "Networking Nigerian Arts and Crafts to the World", held between November 5 and 6, 2020 at Sheraton Hotel in Abuja.
Nigeria according to Taiwo, is a blessed country with rich and unique artistic works .
He added that the rich cultural heritage would boost the nation's Gross Domestic Product (GDP), if well harnessed and properly projected.
The Commissioner stressed that the participation of Ogun State at INAC, was to reposition its rich arts, crafts and creativity through networking, adding that the present administration would leave no stone unturned at ensuring that the State cultural uniqueness is known worldwide.
Taiwo while commending the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), for the laudable event, enjoined Nigerians both at home and in diaspora to embrace and promote the country's cultural endowments by keying into networking of its products thus, placing it on the world map.
The Director-General, NCAC, Otunba Segun Runsewe, appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for his unalloyed support for the sector, noting that the theme was apt and would promote Arts and Crafts businesses.
Ogun State's Director of Culture, Mr. Oluwaseye Adeyemo speaking on the significance of the programme, said that Adire fabrics and other artefacts would be branded, to encourage more investors to berth in the State.
Over ten States in the country, including diplomats and ambassadors participated at the virtual event which was part of the post-COVID-19 measures put in place by NCAC .
