Another fresh batch of 105 Nigerians has returned home from South Africa following concerns over xenophobic attacks on migrants
Their successful return followed the humanitarian intervention by Redeemed Christian Church of God
The batch, including 55 adults, 45 children and five infants, arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos late Friday night.
Their return comes after 100 Nigerians were earlier repatriated from South Africa on Thursday, September 24, 2026
The church had earlier pledged to sponsor the return of 500 Nigerians stranded in South Africa, meaning about 295 more returnees are expected to be brought back in subsequent batches, subject to completion of the required profiling and documentation.
The latest arrivals come two days after the September 30 deadline issued by anti-migrant groups in South Africa, directing undocumented migrants to leave the country.
Chairman of the RCCG Task Force overseeing the repatriation exercise and Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Special Duties, Pastor Belemina Obunge described the intervention as the church's humanitarian contribution to the Federal Government’s efforts to bring stranded Nigerians home
Some of the highly elated Returnees also expressed joy and relief to be back on home soil
The xenophobic attacks on migrants, is now generating diplomatic tension between Nigerian and South African government who is facing similar situation from other African countries for its failure to contain such ugly situation caused by Citizens
