The Chairman of Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Apostle Biodun Sanyaolu, has said that posting of teachers and school administrators to Public Secondary Schools in rural areas is not a punishment, but a deliberate strategy for leadership development, equitable distribution of experienced officers and improved service delivery in the state
Apostle Sanyaolu, made this known during an induction ceremony of qualified senior tutors who were appointed to the post of Vice Principals, at Baptist Boys' High School, Saje Abeokuta.
The Chairman explained that postings to rural areas was part of efforts to strengthen quality education in rural communities, noting that the policy was aimed at ensuring equitable distribution of teachers and school administrators, towards achieving academic excellence.
‘’The Commission is adopting a structured approach to the redistribution and deployment of Public Secondary School teachers and administrators, in line with the classification of schools and the needs of the State Teaching Service Commission,’’ he said.
The TESCOM boss disclosed that the newly appointed Vice Principals were expected to commence their leadership responsibilities in rural schools, where they would serve for three years before becoming eligible for appointment as Principals.
According to him, there would be a progressive movement from rural to semi-urban and from semi-urban to urban schools, subject to performance, experience, discipline, competence, available vacancies and overall needs of the Commission.
He urged the inductees to see their appointment as an opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the development of State Public Secondary Schools, particularly in underserved communities, warning them not to lobby for posting.
The ceremony had in attendance Full-Time Commissioners, Ex-officio members, Permanent Secretary, Principals-General and Directors in TESCOM, as well as various education unions and other stakeholders.
