Ogun Govt Asks Private School Owners To Adhere Strictly To Education Policies

Ogun State Government has warned Private School owners across the State to adhere strictly to its approved policies on education, so as  to aid smooth and efficient academic calendar or have their approval revoked.

The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu gave the warning during the Pre-Resumption Stakeholders' Meeting For the 2026/2027 Academic Session with the Public school teachers' unions and private school owners in the State, at Lisabi Grammar School, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta

He said the present administration had zero tolerance for illegalities or anything that could disrupt peaceful learning conditions in Schools.

The Commissioner also warned against illegal collection of fees by school heads in public schools and placement of exorbitant charges under any disguise by the proprietors of private schools, emphasising that graduation could be conducted for learners in primary six, Junior Secondary School 3 (JS3) and Secondary School 3 (SS3) at no cost.

"I implore you as school owners and school heads, avoid things that can bring embarrassment to your schools, avoid corporal punishment, instill moral behaviour into the learners and please avoid examination malpractices too," Arigbabu pleaded.

Welcoming stakeholders to the meeting, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, reaffirmed that several reforms had been put in place by the current administration in the State and successes had been recorded as a result of the reforms. These, she said had taken the sector to higher ground among other States of the Federation.

She acknowledged private schools as number one stakeholders whose impact on the learners could not be wished away.

In their goodwill messages, the Principal General of Egba Division, Mr. Babatunde Ige, the State President, Association of Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Comrade Alaba Olugbewesa and the Headteacher-General, Egba Division, Mrs. Folake Onabajo, mentioned that school leadership should set the tone and lead the way in strengthening quality education in the State, enjoined teachers to make efforts on how to nurture learners to greater height.

Also speaking, Chairmen, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Noah Sewakanu, represented by his vice, Comrade Olufemi Okulalu, Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Comrade Oluwaseun Agbesanwa, Non-Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (NASU) Schools and Colleges, Comrade Olumide Oduneye, Association of Primary School Teachers of Nigeria (APSTON), Comrade Oluwaseun Salisu, said the choice of Prof. Arigbabu as the State Commissioner for Education had brought stability, intellect and dignity to the classrooms.

In their remarks too, the Presidents, National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Otunba Osibeluwo and the Grand Union of Private Schools Association (GUPSA), Alhaji Ustadz Ajibola, said the event was crucial towards sustaining educational standards in the State, saying the Commissioner had set standards as a model of academic excellence in which other States of the Federation would be looking up to.
