A six-day intensive training programme for Quality Assurance Assessors is underway at the Ogun State owned Moshood Abiola Polytechnic(MAPOLY ) in Abeokuta, the State capital
The training jointly being organized by National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and Tertiary Education Trustfund (TETFUND ), is part of efforts to strengthen quality assurance and improve skills development within the institution.
The training, which runs daily from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., is competency-based and will be followed by six weeks of fieldwork for the participating staff.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Rector of the Polytechnic, NBTE Team Lead, Builder Yunusa Yakubu described the training as an intensive exercise designed to equip participants with the competencies required for effective quality assurance assessment at the institution
He commended the management of the Polytechnic for providing the platform for the training and urged the institution to continue to support staff participating in the programme.
According to Yakubu, the fieldwork that will follow the six-day classroom training is part of the standard process for developing competent Quality Assurance Assessors.
He also highlighted the significance of the emerging dual qualification policy, under which students are expected to graduate with both academic diplomas and skills certificates.
He explained that the policy is designed to ensure that students leave tertiary institutions not only with academic qualifications but also with practical skills that can enhance their capacity to become economically productive.
“This is a very important policy that we must not take lightly,” he stressed, noting that the acquisition of skills alongside academic qualifications could help students begin earning a living after graduation.
Other NBTE officials who accompanied him , including Engr. Usman Nakoji, Engr. Damilola Okola and Engr. Salisu Lawal, said the delegation was at the Polytechnic primarily to pay a courtesy visit to the Rector and acknowledge the institution's role in hosting the training.
Responding, the Rector, Arc(Dr.) Koye Jolaoso expressed appreciation to the visiting regulatory officials for selecting the Polytechnic to participate in and co-host the programme.
He described the visit and training as an important opportunity for the institution to strengthen its capacity and improve the quality of its service delivery.
The Rector assured that the management would provide the necessary support to staff participating in the training and assist them in meeting the requirements of the programme.
He said the institution attached significant importance to the initiative, describing the presence of the regulatory team in the institution as an indication of the confidence placed in the Polytechnic.
The Rector further expressed appreciation for the collaboration between the institution and its regulatory partners, stressing the importance of sustained support for staff development and quality assurance.
The six-day training and subsequent six-week fieldwork are expected to contribute to strengthening the capacity of Quality Assurance Assessors and supporting the implementation of the dual qualification approach, which seeks to combine academic diplomas with practical skills certification for students undergoing various academic programmes in the institution
