Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Prof.Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello has charged new graduands of Faculty of Engineering and School of Agricultural Science to be courageous to embrace new ideas, new technologies and new possibilities, saying degree should never represent the end of their education rather, it should represent the foundation upon which a lifetime of learning is built.
The Vice-Chancellor was speaking on Monday during the commencement of the combined 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies held at the Epe Campus of the university, where Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide of Aerospace Engineering, won ₦10 million cash prize from the Sunbeth Excellence Partnership as overall best graduating student for the 2025/2026 academic session
She urged them to use the knowledge acquired in Engineering and Agricultural to design and build infrastructure of the future for Nigeria
The Vice-Chancellor stressed that future of food security, sustainable agriculture, agribusiness, rural development and significant aspects of the national economy depend on innovation , expertise and leadership of professionals like them
"The certificate you receive today is evidence that you have completed a course of study. What you do with the knowledge behind that certificate will determine the significance of your education"
"As graduates of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences, you are entering professions that are central to Nigeria’s future"
"Our engineers must design and build the infrastructure of tomorrow. They must develop technologies, improve systems, solve complex problems and help create a more productive and sustainable nation"
"Our graduates in Agricultural Sciences carry an equally profound responsibility.
"The future of food security, sustainable agriculture, agribusiness, rural development and significant aspects of our national economy will depend upon the innovation, expertise and leadership of professionals like you.
Never underestimate the significance of the knowledge you have acquired.
And never underestimate the responsibility that accompanies that knowledge", she stated
