The Fall of An Empire, A Sobering Lesson On The Transience Of Political Power

The Organisation for Harmony and Peace (OHP)through it Directorate of Political Affairs has reminded political office holders, aspirants, and every citizen that history repeatedly teaches one enduring truth,no earthly power is permanent. The rise and fall of empires, governments, and political dynasties stand as timeless evidence that authority is only a trust, never a possession.

*Those who occupy the corridors of power must never be deceived by flattering titles such as "game changer," "political strategist," or "master tactician." Every honour, every influence, and every opportunity ultimately belong to Almighty Allah, who alone grants power and takes it away according to His divine wisdom.*

It is equally important for politicians to understand that the electorate cannot be bought, owned, or manipulated indefinitely. Some may distribute gifts during election campaigns, believing that such gestures guarantee victory. However, citizens may accept what is freely offered and still exercise their constitutional right to vote according to their conscience. They may attend campaign rallies and still support another candidate. They may appear silent or intimidated in public, yet make an entirely different decision in the privacy of the polling booth.

*No individual owns the people, and no politician owns their votes. Democracy belongs to the people, and the ballot remains the sacred instrument through which they express their collective will.*

A hungry citizen may receive a bag of rice during an election season, but such temporary relief cannot erase four years of hardship, broken promises, poor governance, insecurity, unemployment, inflation, or neglect. Once citizens begin asking, "What has this government genuinely done to improve my life?" political slogans, propaganda, and empty promises lose their influence.

The Organisation for Harmony and Peace therefore urges political leaders at all levels to embrace humility, accountability, justice, and selfless service. Leadership is a sacred responsibility entrusted by God and the people, not a licence for personal enrichment or political arrogance.

The Holy Qur'an reminds us:
*"Say, O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will, and You take sovereignty away from whom You will."* (Qur'an 3:26)

Indeed, all power belongs to Allah, and history continually confirms that what goes around comes around.

The Organisation for Harmony and Peace calls on Nigerians to remain peaceful, vigilant, and committed to electing leaders of integrity, competence, compassion, and vision.

May Almighty Allah (SWT) bless our nation with righteous, God-fearing, and people-centred leaders who will govern with justice, sincerity, and compassion. May He protect Nigeria from selfish leadership, strengthen our democracy, unite our people in peace, and grant us a future where public office is dedicated to service rather than personal gain. Āmīn.
