Chairman of Ogun Retired Civil Service Administrative Officers’ Forum, Alhaji Sefiu A. Rasheed has stressed the need for members to always sustain the unity mutual respect, tolerance, and support for one another, irrespective of the status at the point of retirement from service either as Head of Service/Permanent Secretary or Director
The Forum's Chairman made the call on Monday in Abeokuta during the 2nd General Meeting held since the Inauguration of its Current Executive Committee, saying any of the members can assume the position of leadership in association
According to him, when a Director assumes the Chairmanship, a retired Head of Service/Permanent Secretary will gladly serve under him, and vice versa, because we are all colleagues in the Administrative Cadre.
"This Forum is for all of us. We are all colleagues in the Administrative Cadre, irrespective of the rank we retired on. Whether one retired as Head of Service, Permanent Secretary, or Director, we remain one and the same Administrative Officers"
"To further strengthen this unity, we have resolved that the position of Chairman should rotate between retired Heads of Service/Permanent Secretaries and Directors", he stated
Alhaji Rasheed expressed satisfaction with the spirit of of comradeship among members which according to him, is one of the major objectives of the forum
"Our bond as colleagues remains strong, and I sincerely thank you all for your commitment and active participation"
He also assured the State Head of Service, Mr. Iskeel Saka of the commitment of forum to promotion of virile civil service in the state during the association's courtesy visit to the office in Oke-mosan, Abeokuta,
"The meeting was very successful and has projected the Forum positively, not only within the State but beyond. We will sustain this engagement for mutual benefit", he stated
The Chairman added that the association was on the verge of securing a permanent site for its Secretariat, pending the conclusions of the assessment from the Bureau of Lands and Survey regarding the cost of allocation.
While pushing for a rebate on the eventual cost of the land , he stressed the need for members to be ready to raise the needed fund for the payment of the land to be allocated to the forum
"We must be prepared to raise funds for the effective occupation of the site through simple demarcation and marking. Your support in this regard is crucial", he urged
There was also presentation of lecture titled "Leaving Peace , Not Problems: Why Every Seasoned Adult Needs a Will.”
by Pastor Adeyeye Oluremi, a retired Director of Administration, who emphasized the importance of Writing Will for members while still strong and healthy
He warned members not to
wait until there is a family disagreement or until their children are fighting over property before preparing a 'Will" for them
"Let us therefore complete the responsibility by making proper arrangements for what happens to what we leave behind"
Pastor Oluremi however corrected the usual impression associated with writing Will, saying doing such is not an invitation to death but an expression of responsibility to the family to ensure they leave peace, not problems.” after their departure from this world
Elder Sola Adeyemi, mni, the Chairman of Board of Trustees, in his goodwill message, appreciated the members championing for the geometrical progression of the Association and urged them not to relent in encouraging those still standing at the fence.
The meeting concluded with the resolution towards effective pursuit of its objectives and mobilising others still outside its fold to be part of this just cause.
