No fewer than 2,400 community leaders have participated in the annual Basic Citizenship and Leadership Training Course, organised by the Ogun State Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives to equip grassroots administrators and community leaders with administrative skills, conflict resolution techniques and modern development tools required for effective community governance and sustainable self-help project delivery.
The training, organised in collaboration with the Ogun State Community Development Council, exposed participants to practical solutions to issues affecting community development, including waste management, climate change and environmental sustainability, community health promotion and disease prevention, as well as digital transformation for improved community service delivery.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of Batch B, at the Social Development Institute, Shasha, Iperu, the Commissioner in the Ministry, Hon. Ademola Balogun, said community leaders wielded significant influence within their respective communities, urged them to apply the knowledge acquired to promote peace, unity and sustainable development across Ogun State.
Balogun, also assured participants that renovation work would soon commence at the institute, disclosing that the present administration, had plans to redesign the facility to give it a new look. He affirmed the government's commitment to completing the project and ensuring that it served as a modern centre for community development training.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Lateef Benson, urged participants to put the knowledge and skills gained during the training into practical use by positively impacting their communities and supporting the government's grassroots development initiatives.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Development, Hon. Bashir Abdul, charged participants to make judicious use of the time, financial resources and personal sacrifices invested in acquiring the knowledge, encouraging them to become agents of peace, unity and progress in their various communities.
Speaking on behalf of other participants, Sis. Grace Akumbur and Evang. Adewale Shittu, commended the State government for prioritising the intellectual development of residents and ensuring the facility remained conducive for learning and interaction, promising to use knowledge gained to improve their various communities.
