A total of 20,604 students across the two academic sessions of 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 will be graduating with diploma, first degree and postgraduate degree from the Lagos State University in the combined 29th and 30th Convocation Ceremonies holding between Monday August 17, Tuesday August 18 and Wednesday 19, 2026
Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof.ibilola Olatunji-Bello who made this known on Wednesday during a press conference heralding weeklong activities held at the Council Chamber of the Senate Building on the Ojo main campus, also revealed that 494 would be graduating with first class honours including Ayilara Lawal Olawale who emerged as overall best with CGPA of 4.96 of the Project Management Department for the 2024/2025 and Adebanjo Samuel Oluolamide of the Aerospace Engineering Department with a CGPA of 4.97
Prof.Olatunji-Bello who will be presiding over her last convocation ceremonies as Vice-Chancellor, disclosed that 7,621 will be graduating with first degree for the 2024/2025 academic session including 262 who finished with First Class Honours, 106 with Unclassified (MBBS/BDS) Degrees, 3,155 (Second Class Upper Division), 3,439 (Second Class Lower Division), 622(Third Class) and remaining 37 with a pass while a total of 947 will be conferred with Diploma Certificate with various grades
For the 2025/2026 session, she said 8,653 students will be graduating with first degree including 232 who came out with First Class Honours, 3,545 (Second Class Upper Division), 4,157 (Second Class Lower Division, 678 with Third Class and remaining 31 with a pass
"Out of the 3,383 Graduating Postgraduate students, we have 618 for Postgraduate Diplomas, 1,508 Academic Masters degrees, 900 Professional Masters degrees, 238 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degrees and 119Professional doctoral degrees", she stated
The Vice-Chancellor accompanied by other principal officers, also announced that the Senate of the university had approved the Conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees on three distinguished Nigerians including Africa's richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote (Doctor of Business Honoris Causa), Mr.Akin Kekere-Ekun) (Doctor of Business Honoris Causa) and Mrs Harriet-Ann Omobola (Bola) Adesola (Doctor of Business Honoris Causa)
"Similarly, on Monday, August 17, the University will elevate two deserving scholars, Professor Rafiu Olaoluwa Okuneye and my humble self, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM to the rank of Distinguished Professor in recognition of their outstanding contributions to teaching, research, mentorship and the advancement of knowledge"
The Vice-Chancellor added that Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Honourable Abike Dabiri-Erewa, D.Arts(h.c.), will be delivering the convocation lecture titled; "From LASU to the World: Harnessing the Nigerian Diaspora as the 7th Region for National Development," on Tuesday, August 18 while conferment of first degree will be holding immediately after the lecture
The weeklong ceremony kicked-start with pre-convocation activities including press conference held on Tuesday and Convocation Staff Sports Competition, at the LASU Sports Centre
"On Friday, 14th August 2026, the convocation will officially commence with the colourful Coconut Breaking and Cultural Day, scheduled to take place at the main Gate of the University at 9.00am. The coconut breaking ceremony is usually organized by the Alumni Association as their contribution to the convocation ceremony.
"The day's activities will conclude with the Convocation Jumat Service at the University Mosque, where members of the Muslim community will gather to offer prayers for the continued peace, progress and prosperity of our University", she said
