Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation, Egba/Yewa Zone has reached out to Ninety-four( 94) beneficiaries in Ogun State with Fifty-Seven (57) of them, including a Christian receiving N51million worth of working tools to support their business growth, while others got cash to meet up with their educational needs and other welfare necessities
The items distributed included Industrial sewing machines; Grinding machines; Washing machines; Industrial weaving machines; Stone-cutting machines; Freezers; Building materials; Clothing materials; Cylinder rotating machines;
Ovens and Adire/Kampala production materials
The State Co-ordinator of the foundation, Town Planner (Alhaji) AbdulRahman Anifowose who made this known in his welcome speech marking the 2026 and 17th edition of Zakat Distribution, also said the foundation paid school fees of Eighteen (18) indigent students and orphans who need educational assistance while Debt settlement and other forms of support were given to Twelve (12) widows, One (1) medical intervention and One (1) elderly welfare support
He described given to a non-Muslim as a clear demonstration that the mercy and goodness of Islam extends beyond boundaries, saying true charity recognises humanity
According to him, over 240 applications were received out of which 94 were selected after a thorough scrutiny of the respective requests
"Between 2020 and 2026, Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation Egba/yewa Zone has recorded remarkable achievements, with not less than 400 beneficiaries receiving assistance from Zakat collections amounting to approximately ₦160 million from Zakat alone.These figures represent more than numbers; they represent families supported, dreams restored,
businesses revived, students encouraged, and lives positively redirected".
"There is no doubt that if Zakat is properly harnessed, transparently
managed, and effectively distributed, it possesses the capacity to address many economic, social, and security challenges confronting Nigeria", he stated
"This is why the theme of this year’s programme: “Zakat and Social Responsibility: Strengthening Economic Security, Community Cohesion
and National Peace” is highly relevant and timely" , Anifowose added
Similarly the Guest Lecturer, Alhaji Imam CSC Shafiu Omojole; who is the Head, Commandant Secretariat, Edo State Command, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, speaking on the theme of the event, emphasized the importance of Zakat and why Wealthy Muslims must pay Zakat as a religion obligation which is one of the five pillars in Islam to reduced poverty in the society and ensure proper redistribution of wealth to address social -insecurity caused by high rate of kidnapping, banditry and other forms of crime in the society
He lauded the Zakat and Sadaqot Foundation for ensuring transparency in distribution of Zakat to beneficiaries stressing the need why those receiving items must properly utilize for their business purposes
The Guest Lecturer however cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the items for monetary gains , saying such unholy act would only attract the wrath of Allah
Also the Chief Executive Officer and Director of Zakat and Sadaqot Foundation, Alhaji Prince Sulayman Olagunju represented by Dr. Lukmon Adefuye says the foundation has its presence in the 27 out of the 36 States of the Federation in Nigeria, including South East where the activities have continued to impact positively on the lives of the people who benefited from the Zakat Distribution
He stressed the need for Muslims particularly the rich and political class to understand the basic principles of institution of Zakat in Islam designed by Allah to address and reduce poverty in the society
Chairman of the event, Alhaji Abdul-Lateef Ayilara and Chief Imam of Egbaland, As-Shaykh Sa’adullahi Bamigbola; the Grand patron of the foundation, represented by Sheikh Tajudeen Adeosun urged the beneficiaries to make good use of empowerment items given to them and strive to be part of the contributors to the foundation for more Muslims to benefit and be removed from poverty
Venerable Ajibode , a pastor to one of the beneficiaries, was full of appreciation to the foundation for extending such assistance to a non-Muslim, praying God to continue to strengthen those running the affairs of the foundation
There was formal presentation of various empowerment items to the beneficiaries including students who Indigent Students from various tertiary institutions and schools
Two of beneficiaries, Mrs Anotu Abdulfatai who got industrial sewing machine for making of bags and Mr. Mukadam Arikoserere who was given Oven for smoking of fishes, appreciated the foundation for the items given, promised to make good use of them while urging wealthy Muslims to always pay Zakat to enable more people benefit from the foundation
