It was a night of excitement on Saturday for lovers of boxing in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, as they enjoyed every bit of exciting boxing contests in both amateur and professional categories packaged by De-Rock Boxing Promotion with the support of Nigeria Boxing Federation
The thrilling boxing contests held inside the indoor hall of the new look Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja area of the city, saw Qudus Adebayo knocking out his opponent, Fisayo Abdul-Qudus Adetunji in the first round of National Lightweight bout, and Quadri Ilori who also knocked out Adebayo Ibrahim within the second round of the National Super Lightweight Contest
In another National Lightweight bout , Oluwatobi Balogun defeated Olumide Michael with a unanimous decision of judges in the night of boxing excitement tagged 'King of the Ring' supported by Elevated Boxing Academy and Deciouss
In other bouts decided in the Super Middleweight, Ebenezer Vincent won by unanimous decision of judges against Opeyemi Ayobami while in another National Super Middleweight contest Peter Ejieke knocked out his opponent, Isaac Victor Iyanuoluwa in the second round of the contest
In the main bout of the night, featuring Female National Heavyweight Contest, Blessing Chukwuede extended her unbeaten professional career fight, after knocking out Blessing Ngozi Smart in the seventh round of the contest
Promoter of the De-Rock Boxing Promotion, Mr.David Osuolale said that outfit was established for promising boxers to promote their professional career in boxing across the country
He was full of appreciation to the Ogun State Boxing Association, former Chairman Mr. Raheem Ajani , Special Adviser to the Governor, Tunde Delu, State Director of Sports, Seyi Sonde among other dignitaries who attended the boxing event.
In some of the earlier boxing contests decided in amateur category for boxers who fought in the maiden 'South West Boxing Tournament', Lateef Qudus of Lagos State out-punched Akanmu Toheeb of Osun State in the 54-55 kg class with unanimous decisions of judges , Tairu Rasaq (Ogun State) stopped Isiak Ibrahim (Osun State) within the first round in the 63-65 kg class while Jamiu Alabi (Ogun State) also stopped Ismail Olanrewaju (Oyo State) in the second round of the 50-51 kg class
Equally in the female 50 kg class, Oyindamola Abiola(Lagos State) defeated Mariam Oladeji (Ekiti State), in the 54 kg class, Aliyah Olalekan (Ogun State) stopped Taofeekat Adepoju (Oyo State) in the second round while in the 54 kg class, Ganiyat Lawal (Ekiti State) won by unanimous decisions against Imole Adebanjo (Osun State)
