The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving agricultural productivity and food security through strategic partnerships that provide farmers with essential agricultural inputs.
The State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo stated this during the official launch of the fertiliser distribution programme facilitated by the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) in Asero, Abeokuta
He described the intervention as a timely and impactful response to the challenges facing farmers, particularly the rising cost of production and limited access to critical farm inputs.
Represented by the Special Adviser on Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Leke Otegbeye, the Commissioner noted that agriculture remains the backbone of the economy and a key driver of employment, poverty reduction and economic growth, stressing that providing quality fertilisers to small holder farmers would boost crop yields, improve incomes and promote sustainable agricultural development across the state.
Owotomo explained that the initiative aligns with the vision of Governor Dapo Abiodun to strengthen food production systems and empower farmers as key contributors to economic growth and rural development,
He assured stakeholders that the fertilisers would be distributed in a transparent and equitable manner to ensure they reach the intended beneficiaries, particularly small holder farmers who make up the majority of agricultural producers in Ogun State.
He urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the fertilisers to maximise productivity, increase food production and support the state's food sufficiency agenda, while also commending the National Agricultural Development Fund for its sustained commitment to agricultural development, describing the partnership as a catalyst for increased productivity and prosperity in the sector.
Speaking on behalf of the National Agricultural Development Fund, Mr. Oluwatoyin Ayo Vaughn said the fertiliser distribution programme was in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at boosting food production across Ogun State and the country at large.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Chairman of Ajegunle Farm Settlement, Mr. Rotimi Sogunle, expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Government and the National Agricultural Development Fund for the intervention, describing the support as timely and impactful, as it would reduce production costs, enhance farm productivity and improve the livelihoods of farmers across the state.
