Ogun State Agro Services Corporation Chairman, Hon. Henry Fagbenro, has expressed displeasure at the level of massive encroachment on Government Agricultural facilities.
Fagbenro expressed the concern when he
embarked on an infrastructure assessment tour to zonal offices of the corporation across the State, as part of steps being taken to secure agricultural assets of the State and to enhance its Value Chain for effective food provision
Some of the Zonal Offices visited included those in Ifo, Sango-Ota and Wasimi axis of the State, where the Corporation's major facilities were heavily occupied and converted into market extensions by some individuals for personal gains.
"Converting structural hubs into market extensions severely hampers the corporation’s ability to deliver essential agricultural inputs and mechanisation support to rural farmers,’’ he said.
The Agro services boss, affirmed that the government intended to immediately reclaim, rehabilitate and upgrade the affected facilities, adding that anyone caught in the illegal act would face the wrought of the law.
“We cannot achieve food security when our strategic Operational hubs are turned into marketplaces,” the Chairman said.
Fagbenro, added that the present administration was fully committed to transforming the agricultural zones to become functional, tech-driven, thus, becoming agricultural centres that would directly empower local farmers and reduce food prices.
In a charge to the personnel, the Chairman mandated the Zonal Officers in Ifo and Wasimi, Mr. Fakayejola Olabode and Mrs. Breimah Elizabeth, to step up their administrative oversight towards maintenance of government assets.
Accompanying the Chairman on the tour were Directors, Administration and supplies Mrs. Adediji Modupeola and Director of Engineering Services Engr. Toheeb Logunleko, who also took an extensive inventory of the structures to facilitate immediate budgetary and engineering interventions.
