Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello has been honoured with the National Outstanding Leadership Award by the National Female Students' Association of Nigeria (NFSAN)
in recognition of her advocacy, dedication, selfless service and exemplary leadership towards the development, and welfare of Nigerian students and youths.
The association also decorated her with the prestigious title of National Matron of Female Students in Nigeria during a courtesy visit to the University.
The award, tagged *“Top Most Outstanding Female Vice-Chancellor”*, was presented to the Vice-Chancellor on Monday, 15th June 2026, in her office, on the Sixth floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, on the Ojo main campus of the university
The NFSAN delegation led by its National Vice-President, Comrade Hawawu Ajiboye, commended Professor Olatunji-Bello, for her outstanding achievements in higher education administration and her commitment to empowering female students.
She noted that the Vice-Chancellor's leadership style, dedication to academic excellence and support for students have made her a role model for young women across the country.
In another development, the Vice-Chancellor received copies of newly published inspirational book written by an alumnus of the university, Mr AbdulBasit AbdulSalami, a 2024 graduate of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences
The copies of the book titled "BECOMING AGAIN ", were donated by the author to the University Library as part of his contribution to the institution that played a pivotal role in his academic and personal transformation.
Speaking during the presentation, Abdulsalam shared his remarkable journey of resilience and determination.
He recounted how he initially gained admission to study Geology at the University of Lagos, but struggled academically due to lack of interest in the course.
The situation worsened as distractions affected his studies, causing his cumulative grade point average to decline significantly and leading to advice that he should withdraw from the institution.
