Former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (Rtd), says the pursuit of peace has always been at the heart of his mission as a leader.
The Nigeria's former leader was speaking over the weekend in Abuja during the unveiling of three books to commemorate his 84th birthday.
Abubakar said his conviction that no nation can thrive without peace inspired the establishment of the Abdulsalami Abubakar Institute for Peace and Sustainable Development Studies in Minna.
According to him, the institute was created to promote peacebuilding, dialogue and sustainable development
It will be recalled that Abubakar who was Head of State between June 1998 and May 199 ensure smooth transition from the military government to civil rule on May 29, 1999, after the annulment of the June 12, 1993 Presidential election by the then Military President, General Ibrahim Babagida against the wish of several Nigerians who strongly believed the poll was won by the Late Moshood Abiola of the then Social Democratic Party(SDP)
