Ogun State government has shut Avalon Industrial Estate in Moloko - Asipa along the Abeokuta -Sagamu Expressway, accusing it of violating various environmental infractions contrary to various Sections of the 2020 Ogun State Waste Management Authority Law.
The shutting down of the industrial estate demonstrates the determination of the Prince Dapo Abiodun's government to keep the state clean of all forms of wastes especially hazardous industrial wast
Special Adviser to the Governor on Waste Management who doubles as the Managing Director of Ogun State Waste Management Authority, OGWAMA, Hon Farook Akintunde ordered the closure of the Industrial Estate which housed several Industries such as Cherry Motors,May Mall,Hongfu Building Materials Industry, Oolala Global Trading Company,Buyang Industry Limited,Leku Industry and Abec Kuka Foams
The companies in the Industrial Estate according to him, were found guilty of dumping waste including hazardous ones in their immediate environment and community contrary to Section 34(1) of Ogun State Waste Management Law 2020 as well as engaging the services of unauthorized waste collectors to evacuate their waste in contravention of Section 17 of the same law.
"They were also found culpable of dumping waste in illegal dumpsites as well as preventing government-licenced waste collectors to perform their duties in the Estate since 2023 in disobedience with OGWAMA Law"
"Despite all these infractions,we gave the Estate the opportunity to defend themselves of these allegations and even scheduled a facility tour to the Estate to resolve all the issues,but they refused and even stopped government officials from doing the facility tour thereby preventing them from doing their lawful duties "
"As government agency,we will not fold our hands and watch the Avalon Industrial Estate to willingly flout government laws with reckless abandon as well as denying government officials from performing their lawful duties under any guise"Akintunde stated
Akintunde said the Estate will remain shut until they correct all the infractions as well as show commitment through writing to submit themselves to all the laws governing to waste management in the state.
