The immediate past President/Vice-Chancellor of Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State and now Vice Chancellor of Adventist University of Africa (AUA), Nairobi, Kenya, Professor Ademola Tayo has pledged the proceeds of a book launch six months ago in his honour to fund an educational support initiative for indigent students.
According to him, the initiative will provide an annual sponsorship for 10 students from Oke-Ila Orangun and 5 others from Inisha both in Osun State, as well as a yearly prize for Babcock’s overall best graduating student.
“Education restores dignity, unlocks potential, and builds nations. This project will continue to open doors for deserving students long after we are gone,” he said,
“This initiative is our way of ensuring that the kindness represented by this book continues to multiply itself through transformed lives and future leaders", he stated
Prof. Tayo who said he was deeply “humbled” that the Committee members considered what he described as his modest contribution to the University and to Christian education worthy of documentation, explained that
The scholarship according to him, will not be limited to students in public institutions but will extend its reach to deserving candidates across diverse educational settings.
"To ensure sustainability, the funds will be strategically invested, with the yearly dividends dedicated to providing partial scholarships. The Education Foundation will be managed by a board, ensuring transparency, accountability, and continuity. Designed to last in perpetuity, the Foundation will span beyond the lifetime of its founders, serving as a lasting legacy of commitment to education and faith", he assured
“Books are powerful instruments. Buildings may age, policies may change, and administrations may pass, but books preserve ideas, values, struggles, lessons, and legacies,” he said. “Through books, experiences become teachers to people we may never meet. Through books, history speaks to the future. Through books, leadership becomes accountable to posterity. Therefore I do not take this gesture lightly.”
He attributed whatever achievements were recorded during those years to the God’s grace, the cooperation of dedicated colleagues, the support of the Board, Council, parents, staff, students, alumni, the church, and countless partners who believed in the vision of Babcock University.”
Prof. Tayo, who led Babcock University for a decade, assumed his new role in January 2026 as the President/Vice-Chancellor of Adventist University of Africa (AUA), Nairobi, Kenya.
He and his wife, Professor Grace Tayo, assumed the new roles, after completing their tenure at Babcock University, where Prof. Grace Tayo served as Director of Research, Innovation, and International Collaboration. Together, they devoted 27 years of service to Babcock, holding various leadership positions and contributing significantly to its growth and global reputation.
The book, “Ademola S. Tayo: The Unlikely and Creditable Vice-Chancellor,” edited by Michael Oni, Ngozi Nwogwugwu and Emmanuel Eregare, is a 400-page biography that documents his decade-long leadership at Babcock University highlighting values such as accountability, fairness, prudence, and service.
The announcement of the student support fund further underscores his enduring legacy of service, stewardship, and commitment to Christian education, ensuring that generations of students will benefit from opportunities to pursue their dreams despite financial challenges.
