Dawah Front of Nigeria in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, in collaboration with Amir Zakat Foundation, has empowered fifty (50) Small-scale Business Owners with working tools and items worth over N11 million, the sixth edition of such empowerment programme organized by the Muslim organization's chapter
Forty-five (45) of the beneficiaries including a Point of Sales Operator who received POS machine with N120,000 cash as capital in addition to start-up kits, while others such as artisans, traders ,computer operators and food vendors were given industrial sewing machines, manual sewing machines , refrigerators, laptop computers, medium size electricity generators, laminating machines, weaving machines, food stuffs, Kampala and other clothing materials amongst valuables with total worth put at N10.5million
Deputy National Co-ordinator of Dawah Front of Nigeria, Prof. Sheriffdeen Adewuyi speaking on behalf of the National Co-ordinator, during a brief presentation ceremony held on Sunday at the Abeokuta Central Mosque, Kobiti, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the working tools and other items to grow their respective businesses, in order to be in position to pay Zakat from their wealth
He stressed the economic and spiritual importance of sustaining the collaboration with Amir Zakat Foundation , while encouraging members of the organization to continue to pay their Zakat as one of the five pillars of Islam for more people to benefit from the such empowerment programme
He acknowledged the huge financial commitment of Amir Zakat Foundation and collaboration with Dawah Front of Nigeria in ensuring the success record so far with empowerment programme, charging the Consultant to the Zakat Committee, Waheed Quadri to always ensure proper monitoring of the beneficiaries to ensure proper utilization of the working tools and items given to them
Similarly the Abeokuta Chapter Co-ordinator of Dawah Front of Nigeria, Dr. Samsideen Ayanwale lauded the financial support of Amir Zakat Foundation, revealing that N7 million was contributed by the foundation to the empowerment programme organized by the chapter
The Chapter Co-ordinator who equally enjoined the beneficiaries to make use of working tools and items given to them, praying Allah to strengthen their respective businesses to enable them pay back inform of Zakat from multiple profits realized.
Chairman of the Zakat Committee of Abeokuta Chapter of Dawah Front of Nigeria, Arc. Surajudeen Fasola , disclosed that 73 applications were received while 64 of the applicants participated in the selection process out of which only 50 including thirty-eight ( 38) women and 12(twelve) men were successfully picked after series of thorough procedures
He explained that the committee only made available working tools and items to the 45 of the beneficiaries while arrangements would be made later for the remaining five beneficiaries to get their items whose total worth is put at N1.1 million, bringing the total value of goods distributed to N11.6million
Secretary of the Zakat Committee, Yusuff Olugbade expressed concern over improper presentation of the application by some of the applicants when the committee was scrutinizing the requests before it, calling for proper presentation to enable such applicants benefit from future empowerment programme to be organized by the Abeokuta Chapter of Dawah Front of Nigeria
On proper monitoring of the beneficiaries, Consultant to the Committee, Waheed Quadri, assured the National Secretariat of Dawah Front of Nigeria of adequate mechanism put in place for proper tracking of the beneficiaries to ensure the items are well utilized for the purpose of their respective businesses
In goodwill messages , Alhaja Morufat stressed the importance of Muslims paying Zakat from their wealth while pioneer Chairman of the Zakat Committee, Alhaji Oke commended members of the committee for sustenance of the empowerment programme to reduce poverty in the society
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Owolabi was full of appreciation to Dawah Front of Nigeria and Amir Zakat Foundation, promising that they will ensure proper utilization of the empowerment items to grow their respective businesses
