Ogun State Government says the 2026 Ojude Oba festival will serve as a major platform for tourism promotion, economic growth and cultural elevation in the State.
The State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Sesan Fagbayi, made this revelation at the 2026 Ojude Oba Festival World Press Conference held at Heritage Hall, Awujale Palace, Ijebu-Ode, describing the festival holding on the third-day of the Eid-el- Kabir, as an engine of economic growth, tourism development and cultural diplomacy.
According to him, the globally celebrated cultural festival remained a rallying point for sons and daughters of Ijebuland to bond, strengthen communal identities and foster connections among people, home and in the diaspora.
“Ojude Oba Festival is not only a cultural tradition, but a symbol of our unity, resilience and pride as a people,” he said.
He explained that the State government intended to leverage the festival beyond cultural celebration by positioning it as a catalyst for economic development and international tourism.
The Commissioner assured that the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun would continue to provide strong support for the annual event, promising a vibrant, inclusive and inspiring celebration.
He also highlighted several tourist attractions across the State that visitors could explore during the festival, such as the Yemoji Natural Swimming Pool, Bilikisu Sungbo Tourist Centre, Orisagamu Ewa Shrine, Ogunde Living and Historical Museum and the iconic Olumo Rock.
Fagbayi added that other renowned cultural celebrations such as the Lisabi Festival, Oronna Festival, Remo Day, Akesan, Iganmode and Agasapo-Hepo festivals had collectively enrich the State’s cultural calendar and reinforced its identity as Nigeria’s leading destination for heritage tourism, while calling on private sector investors and development partners to take advantage of opportunities in the State’s rapidly expanding cultural and tourism industry.
He said the Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for partnerships aligned with Governor Abiodun’s ISEYA development agenda, which he described as a roadmap for “Building Our Future Together.”
The Commissioner, expressed appreciation to the Awujale Interregnum Administrative Council and the Council of Awujale Chiefs and Otunbas for their dedication to sustaining one of Africa’s most colourful cultural festivals.
