Teachers' Registration Council Inducts 274 LASU Education Faculty Students Into Teaching Profession

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has formally inducted two hundred and seventy-four (274) students of the Faculty of Education, Lagos State University (LASU), into the teaching profession at a ceremony held over the weekend at the Conference Hall, 3-in-1 Complex, on the Ojo main campus of the university

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, represented by the Acting Dean, School of Library, Archival and Information Science, Dr Abayomi Adeleke, congratulated the inductees and declared the ceremony open.

In his address, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Professor Olugbenga Akindoju, represented by Professor Lateefat Yahya, described the occasion as a significant milestone in the students’ academic and professional journey. He emphasised that teaching is a noble calling that shapes minds, builds character, and contributes meaningfully to national development, while urging the inductees to uphold high standards of professionalism, integrity, and dedication.

Professor Akindoju also stressed the need to adhere to the ethical guidelines of the profession as stipulated by TRCN and to embrace innovation and adaptability in teaching and learning.

 He expressed pride in the inductees’ achievements and confidence in their capacity to make meaningful contributions to the education sector.

Delivering her address, the Registrar/Chief Executive of TRCN, Dr (Mrs) Ronke 

Soyonbo, highlighted the importance of the 4Cs – Creativity, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Collaboration as essential skills for effective 21st-century teaching. 

She noted TRCN’s ongoing efforts to modernise education through digital tools, including structured lesson plans, and urged the inductees to embrace innovation, adapt to contemporary teaching methods, and empower learners to take ownership of their education.

Dr Soyonbo further underscored the critical role of teachers in national development, describing the profession as noble and transformative, requiring dedication, excellence, and continuous improvement.

 She also highlighted ongoing efforts by TRCN and the Federal Ministry of Education to enhance the status and recognition of teachers in Nigeria, encouraging the inductees to remain professional, innovative, and impactful in their service to society.

The Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr Emmanuel A. Fanu, represented by the Deputy Registrar/Faculty Officer, Faculty of Education, Mrs Modupe Obayomi-Davies, coordinated the induction proceedings.

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of TRCN certificates and licences to the inductees by the Vice-Chancellor’s representative, the representative of the Dean, Faculty of Education, and the Registrar of TRCN, who collectively charged the new teachers to be pacesetters in the profession.

Also present at the ceremony were the Faculty Coordinator of TRCN at Lagos State University, Professor Oludare Olufowobi, TRCN officials, Heads of Departments, and other teaching and non-teaching staff of the Faculty of Education.
