Ogun State Government has restated its commitment to sustenance of necessary agricultural and entrepreneurial support to schools in the State, so as to strengthen active practice for learners in preparation for self-reliance after leaving the school.
The State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, dropped this hint when the Steering Committee on Student Entrepreneurship Activities Hub (SEA Hub), paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Oke-Mosan to re-strategise on inculcating skills oriented ideas to students.
Prof. Arigbabu recalled that the pronouncement by the Ministry in 2024 to make agriculture and woodworks subjects compulsory for all students, was part of measures put in place to encourage skills acquisition among learners.
He noted that basic knowledge needed by students to be self-dependent had also been included at the Junior Secondary School curriculum with teachings on measurement, estimation and calculations, all in a bid to cater for their vocational aspirations, later in life.
"We as the government will continue to do our best to help, orientate, support and as well monitor our learners and schools to further achieve the policy on entrepreneurship activities in schools", Arigbabu said.
Also speaking, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko appreciated the government for resuscitating vocational studies in schools, promising that with the approval and support of the Commissioner, the State would shine high in entrepreneurship competition.
Earlier in his submission, the SEA Hub Team Lead in Ogun State, Prince Micheal Adesanya acknowledged the transformative efforts of the present administration in the education sector, appealing for the inclusion of once in a week entrepreneurship activities in schools to enable the State reclaim its leading position recently lost to Lagos
