Ogun State House of Assembly has confirmed the Governor Dapo Abiodun’s nominees, whose names were contained in the list for appointment into the State Independent Electoral Commission
The house had earlier on Wednesday screened the nominees, affirming their eligibility to assume office in line with extant legislative procedures.
The confirmation of the nominees followed the passage of a resolution titled: H.R. NO.165/OG/2026 – Confirmation of the Nominees of the Governor for Appointment into the State Independent Electoral Commission, sequel to the adoption of the report of the Committee of the Whole House chaired by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, as presented by the House Leader, Hon. Yusuf Sheriff.
According to the resolution, which was in line with the request of the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, that it was the opinion of the Honourable House that the Governor’s request be granted for the confirmation of all the commission nominees into the State Independent Electoral Commission.
Earlier, the House Leader, had presented the report, and later moved for its adoption, which was seconded by Hon. Lukman Adeleye and supported by the entire House.
Presenting the report, Hon. Sheriff stated that the Committee had thoroughly examined the nominees’ curriculum vitae, credentials, and responses during the screening exercise, and found them suitable for appointment into the Commission.
The motion for the confirmation was subsequently moved by the House Leader, seconded by Hon. Adeleye and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote.
The House Leader later moved the motion converting the report into a House resolution seconded by Hon. Adeleye, after which the Speaker directed the Clerk/ Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Sakiru Adebakin, to forward the resolution to the Governor for further action.
The nominees confirmed by Assembly included Mr. Babatunde Adetona Osibodu, Mr. Tunji Akoni, Mr. Ayodele Bankole, Mrs. Gbemisola Onasanya, and Mrs. Oluwaremilekun Olaopa.
