The Liberian Ambassador to Nigeria, John Akel Ballout Jr.,has expressed his commitment to building a relationship with Babcock University in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, that extends beyond diplomacy.
He made the remark at the courtesy visit to the University’s President/Vice Chancellor, Prof. Afolarin Ojewole during which he reflected on Nigeria’s pivotal role in restoring peace in the course of the Liberian civil war.
“Nigeria contributed the most resources to restoring peace in Liberia. They paid a higher price than anybody in terms of human casualties,” he stated.
Highlighting Liberia’s new policy direction, the Ambassador announced that Nigeria would be the first country offered investment opportunities in key sectors including oil and gas, mining, agriculture, and tourism.
He invited Nigerians to participate in an upcoming investment forum in Lagos, aimed at deepening economic collaboration.
Welcoming the Ambassador, Professor Ojewole, emphasized the institution’s readiness for partnerships.
He noted the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s longstanding connections with Liberia’s government and expressed enthusiasm for collaborations in student exchanges, research, and academic development.
“We want Babcock University to be the first stop for international students seeking quality education,” Ojewole affirmed.
Professor Ojewole also highlighted Babcock’s American-influenced curriculum and global academic networks, positioning the university as an ideal partner for Liberian institutions.
The visit marks a significant step in strengthening ties between Liberia and Babcock University, fostering opportunities for educational and economic cooperation.
