Muslims have been admonished to always give gratitude to God for every gift of life, so as to be rewarded spiritually with more blessings on earth and protection against evil doers
Chief imam of the Society of Muslim Professionals (SMP) , Alhaji Abubakri Abd'Wasiu gave the admonition while delivering the Anniversary's Lecture titled
"From Gratitude to Greater Heights: Sustaining Excellence in Deen and Dunyah.” during the grand-finale of the 35th anniversary week of the organization held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital
The cleric described gratitude as an act of worship that Allah loves and rewards with protection and barakah, saying it is a sign of the servant’s contentment and closeness to his Lord
Showing gratitude according to his sermon, repels calamity and brings contentment and tranquility
The Chief Imam identified four practical ways to show gratitude to include, maintaining prayers as acts of worship, helping the the needy and giving charity from what Allah has given to you
"Thanking people, because whoever does not thank people has not thanked Allah"
"Reflecting on daily blessings we take for granted: Health, safety, provision", he stated
Alhaji Abubakri how cautioned Muslims against being Ingratitude to God, saying it is a cause for blessings to be removed
"Gratitude preserves what you have and brings what you lack. It sets right the servant’s relationship with his Lord and with people", he concluded
Similarly National President of SMP, Alhaji Sefiu Rasheed had earlier in his welcome speech, explained the importance of theme of this year's celebration “From Gratitude to Greater Heights: Sustaining Excellence in Deen and Dunyah", saying gratitude
is a reminder to Allah and not merely in words, but in continuous striving for excellence in both individuals' spiritual obligations and worldly engagements.
Since inception , SMP according to him, has remained steadfast in its objectives: promoting Islamic ideals, fostering socio-economic and political awareness, supporting the needy, and offering constructive guidance to society and governance.
He acknowledged the efforts of the founding fathers of the organization since 13th April 1991, including Alhaji Sulaiman Osho, Alhaji Sefiu A. Rasheed, Alhaji Taofeeq Osundara, and Alhaji Hafeez Orunsolu—who laid the foundation of the noble Society.
"Their foresight and commitment to the motto “Oneness in Islam” have guided us for 35 impactful years"
"Over the years, we have provided counselling to students, produced enlightening educational materials, and carried out outreach programmes across markets, mechanic villages, correctional centres, and other communities. We have empowered individuals economically through our non-interest cooperative scheme and strengthened our spiritual base with the establishment of our central mosque and the turbanning of our Chief Imam in 2015".
"Our annual health outreach programmes and active collaboration with key Muslim bodies, including the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations and the Ogun State Muslim Council, further reflect our commitment to service and unity", he stated
He urged all members and stakeholders to remain committed to the ideals of the noble Society.
"Let us build on our legacy, inspire the younger generation, and continue to be shining examples of professionalism guided by Islamic values", he charged
On behalf of the leadership of SMP, I express profound appreciation to all our founders, past leaders, members, partners, and supporters who have contributed to this remarkable journey
The 35th anniversary of SMP was celebrated in a grand style with a visit to a Borstal home , a juvenile facility in Abeokuta, to donate some essential items to the young inmates last Friday April 17, 2026 and Special Jummah service at association's Central Mosque at Solar Hilltop, opposite Crown Royal Hotel, Abiola Way , Abeokuta while the grand finale was held on Sunday April 19, 2026 at Solar Distinct Auditorium, within the same facility
