Fresh students of D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori-Ewekoro in Ogun State have been charged to demonstrate high level of discipline by focusing on their academic pursuits and shunning cultism, examination malpractice and other forms of vices capable of destroying their future ambition on campus
Rector of the institution, Prof.Adegoke Akeem Rauf and Chairman of the Governing Council, Ambassador Toye Okanlawon gave the charge on Thursday during the 20th Matriculation ceremony for newly admitted students for both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) for the 2025/2026 session
The Rector urged the matriculated students to approach their academic journey with curiosity, discipline and a relentless desire to excel
Discipline according to him, remains the bedrock of institution , saying the polytechnic has zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice, hooliganism and all forms of indiscipline
"Let me be clear any behaviour that threatens the peace, integrity and reputation of this institution will not be condoned ..Choose wisely the company you keep and remain focused on your purpose here ", he stated
The Rector encouraged the fresh students to take full advantage of the opportunities in the institution, by engaging actively in their studies, acquiring practical and digital skills and participating in the extracurricular activities while building network that will support their future aspirations
He assured parents of the safety of their wards on campus, saying the polytechnic is committed to providing a secure, peaceful and enabling atmosphere for learning and personal development
"We take pride in our team of highly qualified and dedicated lecturers who are passionate about imparting knowledge and mentoring students towards excellence. Their commitment to continue to position this institution as a centre of academic distinction ", he added
Similarly, the Governing Council's Chairman represented by one of the members, Dr. Kayode Olunuga, urged the new students to remain focused on their studies by avoiding social vices including cultism, violence and examination malpractice , saying involvement in such acts will jeopardize their future
"Be ambassadors of excellence, not only within these walls but also in your host communities . Explore every opportunity and make your time here count", he urged
He also called on parents to take keen interest in the academic pursuits of their wards, saying they should closely monitor their extra curricular activities
The Governing Council assured staff of its readiness to improve on their welfare packages while reiterating commitment to build on the solid foundation laid during the first term by the council's members
" During this new term (our second term), we will increase our focus on modernizing our facilities to meet global standards. Enhancing our programmes to ensure our graduates remain competitive
The council appreciated the Management, Staff and students of the institution for their cooperation, saying their contributions are essential to the smooth running of DS Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic
The State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, who was represented by a member of the council and Director of Quality Assurance and Teachers Development in the ministry, Mrs Duze, enjoined the students to be passionate about their academic pursuits in the institution
He urged them to be innovative, by making good use of digital facilities available on campus to create wealth for themselves
High point of the event was reading of the Pledge of Obedience to the polytechnic by the students
Representative of the Nigeria Police Force later offered tips to the ston security while that of Federal Road Safety Corps gave safety tips on road
A total of Two thousand,four hundred (2,400) students including 1,300 ND students and 1,100 HND students were matriculated in the School of Engineering and Sciences, School of Management Sciences, School of Communication and Information Technology as well as School of Environmental Studies and Centre of External Programme and Part-time Studies
